Woman Dies 11 Days After Arrest In Baltimore: Report

There was no force 'whatsoever' used in the detainment of 52-year-old woman: Baltimore police commissioner.

BALTIMORE, MD — The woman found unconscious in a holding cell at the southwest district station earlier this month has died, according to reports.

Kim Doreen Chase, 52, was pronounced deceased Thursday morning from an illness at St. Agnes Hospital, according to WBAL.

"We can unequivocally say there was no force used whatsoever," Police Commissioner Kevin Davis said in a press conference earlier this month.

He noted an investigation was underway because Chase was hospitalized after police took her into custody on Sunday, April 9.

At 10:47 a.m. that day, authorities said they received a call for service about a warrant for a 52-year-old woman in 100 block of South Calverton Road wanted in Calvert County for failure to appear.

Police found the woman near her listed address and took her home before going to the southwest district, according to officials. She was inside 20 t0 30 minutes waiting for a prisoner transport van, Davis said.

On numerous occasions, Davis said he had allowed people to get their things together before being taken into custody. "It's not abnormal for a police officer to allow someone to gather their personal effects before they are transported to either central booking or a district station," Davis said.

What happened next was not the typical activity, officials reported.

"We know her hair was braided," Davis said. A family member braided the woman's hair, and she got her clothing, according to WJZ, which reported a lieutenant had been suspended and two officers were put on administrative status during the investigation.

Davis said whether anything else occurred in the home was part of what investigators were working to determine.

Police said some drug paraphernalia was found from Chase at the scene of her arrest.

The results of toxicology reports have not been released.
