Abingdon Man Charged With Attempted Murder After Deputy Hit: HCSO

An Abingdon man has been charged with 12 crimes after authorities said he drove away from a traffic stop and injured two deputies.

BEL AIR, MD — An Abingdon man has been charged with attempted murder and other offenses after authorities said he dragged an officer while fleeing a traffic stop and later ran his vehicle into another deputy who tried to stop him Thursday afternoon in Harford County. Both officers were hospitalized, and one has been released, the Harford County Sheriff's Office reported Friday.

Jacob Seaman, 33, of the 4000 block of Timothy Drive in Abingdon, is being held without bail.

He is charged with first- and second-degree attempted murder, two counts of first- and second-degree assault, two counts of assault on a law enforcement officer and four counts of reckless endangerment.

Seaman was trying to make a getaway from a traffic stop before 2:30 p.m. Thursday on Interstate 95 near the MD 24 overpass when he dragged Deputy First Class Austin Gentry, officials said. Gentry was treated and released Thursday from Upper Chesapeake, according to authorities.

Officials said Seaman drove onto MD 152 then turned right on Old Joppa Road, where officers threw down stop sticks; but he drove through the intersection of Whitaker Mill Road and Old Joppa Road, hitting a deputy and other vehicles in the process, authorities reported.

Sr. Deputy J. Nate Gerres was out of his vehicle when he was hit, according to the sheriff's office. He was medevaced to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center for lower leg injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening, and authorities said Friday he remains at shock trauma.

A bail review hearing is slated for 1:30 p.m. on Monday in Harford County District Court.
