2 State Police Cars Hit In Bel Air Amid 30-Mile Pursuit: Police

A police chase that spanned two states resulted in the arrest of three teens in Cecil County, officials said.

HARFORD COUNTY, MD — Three Delaware teens were arrested after a police chase that spanned two states and multiple Maryland counties, according to Maryland State Police. During the pursuit, two state police vehicles were hit when the stolen vehicle that sparked the chase rammed into them on Singer Road, according to authorities, who said no troopers were injured.

State police officials said they were contacted Sunday before 10 p.m. by Delaware State Police, who alerted them that a stolen black Jeep Patriot with Delaware tags was headed for the Maryland-Delaware state line. It was wanted in connection with several shootings that occurred over the weekend in Wilmington, Del., police reported.

Around 10:15 p.m., troopers from the JFK Memorial Highway Barrack said they saw the vehicle near mile marker 87 on Interstate 95 south in Harford County. Authorities requested support from the Maryland State Police helicopter, while additional troopers in vehicles provided backup in preparation for a traffic stop.

The Jeep took exit 77 off I-95 and went north on MD 24 before turning right onto Singer Road, where police said three marked Maryland State Police cars turned on their lights and sirens and tried to stop the vehicle. The Jeep continued on at 90 mph, according to a traffic citation filed against the driver.

Anthony Harrigan, 17, of Wilmington, Del., rammed two of the patrol cars on Singer Road before driving onto MD 924 south, north on MD 24 and US 1 north into Cecil County, officials said.

Once across the Conowingo Dam, police said the Jeep took Routes 273, 276 and 275, where it drove off the road into the tree line, came to rest and the three teens inside ran away.

Troopers from the North East, Bel Air and JFK Barracks participated in the ground search for the suspects while the Maryland State Police Aviation Command Trooper 1 flew overhead to help locate the trio.

All were taken into custody — one was near the Jeep in the woods, another was in a housing development and the third was in a nearby mobile home park, officials reported.

The suspects have been identified as the following:

  • Anthony Harrigan, 17, of Wilmington, Del.
  • Maurice Harrigan, 17, of Wilmington, Del.
  • Stanley Jones, 18, of Claymont, Del.

Anthony Harrigan — who had been driving the Jeep — was charged with four counts of first-degree assault, multiple firearm violations, motor vehicle theft and other criminal and traffic-related charges, police said.

Maurice Harrigan is charged with multiple firearm violations, motor vehicle theft and other criminal and traffic-related charges, authorities reported.

Jones was charged with multiple firearm violations, motor vehicle theft and other criminal and traffic-related charges, according to officials.

During the 30-mile pursuit, police said two firearms were discarded and subsequently located by investigators.
