6 Puppies Die In Accidental Bel Air Shed Fire: Officials

BEL AIR, MD — A heat lamp used to keep a litter of puppies warm likely caused a fire that destroyed a shed and killed the six dogs, Bel Air fire officials said.

Firefighters from the Bel Air Volunteer Fire Company responded to the blaze at 412 Harrington Road about 3 p.m. Sunday, the state fire marshal's office.

It took 30 firefighters about 10 minutes to control the flames of the wood shed which was housing the 8-week-old puppies. A neighbor reported the fire.

Investigators ruled the cause of the fire accidental due to a lamp the puppies' owners were using to keep the litter warm.

Officials estimate a loss of $2,,500 in both contents and another $2,500 to the structure.
