Abingdon Man Arrested In 7-Eleven Robbery Attempt: Police

Police said the man suspected in the robbery attempt at 7-Eleven on Main Street was under the influence of drugs.

BEL AIR, MD — Police said an Abingdon man under the influence of PCP was arrested at 7-Eleven Friday on Main Street in Bel Air. Nobody was injured in what officials reported was a robbery attempt at the convenience store.

Police said three 911 calls came in about the robbery attempt at 7-Eleven around 11:40 a.m. Friday.

When they arrived at 11:44 a.m., officers reported finding a man behind the registers inside the store at 306 South Main Street.

Melvin Eugene Williams Jr., 39, of Abingdon, was arrested and taken to the Bel Air Police Department for processing, officials said.

After reviewing video surveillance and witness statements, police later said in a statement that officials determined "Williams did not attempt to steal anything."

Williams was charged with second-degree assault, failure to obey a lawful order and disorderly conduct, according to authorities. He is slated to appear in Harford County District Court Tuesday for a bail review.

Investigators said they determined Williams was under the influence of PCP at the time.
