Police said Friday evening that the surgery was believed to have gone well.
In the aftermath of the shooting, police initially identified Tyler Scott Testerman, 21, as the man responsible, and it was not clear there was a second suspect.
Testerman was taken into custody at approximately 10:25 a.m. Officials said they planned to charge Testerman with attempted murder and other related offenses.
At 6 p.m., authorities said that there was a second suspect, and after 9 p.m., authorities identified him as the 26-year-old Abingdon man.
“Through a relentless investigation, Mr. Lawrence was developed as a second suspect in the shooting of Officer Jason Easton,” Aberdeen Police said in a statement at approximately 9:30 p.m.
Police said that a .410-caliber shotgun was found, although it was not immediately available where it was located and whether it was connected to the arrest of Lawrence.
