Airborne SUV Hits Second Vehicle, Two Killed In Crash, Two Left Injured: MD State Police
Police are investigating a crash in Harford County where a driver lost control of his vehicle, was airborne and crashed into a 2nd vehicle.
HARFORD COUNTY, MD — Two people were killed in a crash that unfolded Thursday shortly after 6 p.m. Maryland State Patrol troopers were called to the scene along northbound I-95 at the 77.2 mile marker in Abingdon.
Witnesses told investigators a2013 GMC Terrain SUV driven by Dennis English, 45, of Baltimore was traveling at a high rate of speed when it lost control, crossed over two lanes and flipped over across the guardrail. He was the only person in the vehicle.
A Subaru Forester being driven by John Mastropietro, 64, of Ocean Port, New Jersey, was northbound on I-95 in the second lane was hit head on by the GMC when it became airborne and the Forester then overturned into the northbound lanes of I-95, according to the Maryland State Police.

Emergency medical service personnel took Mastropietro to the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore where he was pronounced dead by hospital personnel. Mastropietro was traveling with two other passengers in the vehicle who were injured. They are Denise Berlin, 60, and Jade Mastropietro, 26, both of Ocean Port, New Jersey. They were taken from the scene to the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center for medical treatment, according to the Maryland State Police.
The cause and contributing factors involved in this crash remain under investigation. All possible causes are being considered including excessive speed and possible impairment, police reported.
