BEL AIR, MD — A brewery in Bel Air is hosting a fundraiser for Sgt. Bill Shiflett and his family. Shiflett was the officer shot and injured at a Baltimore methadone clinic over the summer.

AleCraft Brewery on Main Street is donating 10 percent of sales Thursday, Sept. 19, to the Shiflett family.

The 25-year veteran of the Baltimore Police Department was shot underneath his bulletproof vest Monday, July 15, by an armed man at a methadone clinic in the 2100 block of Maryland Avenue in Baltimore City.

A worker was killed, and the shooter died in a gunfight with police inside the Man Alive drug treatment facility. Shiflett and a nurse were injured, police said.

Two days later, the Baltimore Fraternal Order of Police reported its President Mike Mancuso met with Shiflett, who was on the mend. He was "happy to report that, as members of [the Baltimore Police Department] know, Bill is as tough as ever. Although in severe pain, he forced himself out of his hospital bed to stand. Keep at it Brother...we've got your back!"

When Shiflett was released from shock trauma Sunday, July 21, WJZ spoke to physician-in-chief Thomas Scalea, who said it would be a difficult couple of months for him on the road to recovery.

Shiflett required several surgeries after being shot by the man who demanded a large container of medication at the clinic, according to a statement from AleCraft.

"Bill is on his way to recovery, but still faces challenges and expenses related to his recovery. We will be holding a fundraiser to help support Bill and his family," AleCraft posted on its event page. "Please come out, enjoy craft beer from one (or more) of our 12 taps, and support Bill and his family."

The fundraiser for Sgt. Bill Shiflett and his family will be from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 19, at AleCraft Brewery, 319 S. Main Street, Bel Air, MD 21014.
