BEL AIR, MD — A stolen vintage 1947 Martin D-28 acoustic guitar worth $15,000 has been recovered, police announced.
Bel Air Police said they were contacted by a person in New Jersey who had bought the contents of a storage unit and later found several guitars inside. After researching one of the instruments, the person determined that it may have been the vintage guitar stolen from Music Land and contacted Bel Air Police. Bel Air officers went to New Jersey where the guitar was confirmed to be the same vintage guitar stolen from Music Land, police said.
Surveillance video showed four people going into the Music Land on Gateway Drive around 8:20 p.m. Feb. 10 and taking the guitar from a display and concealing it before leaving the store. Surveillance footage showed the male suspect climbing onto a stool and removing a guitar from a display area. He then handed the instrument to one of the female suspects, who slid it into a large bag and hid it beneath a long black puffy winter jacket before the group exited the store a short time later without paying.
The store said no staff members were confronted or harmed during the incident, according to Bel Air Police.
On March 11, the suspects were apprehended by Greenwich Police in Connecticut. The investigation indicates that the individuals have been involved in similar music instrument thefts elsewhere in Maryland and in New Jersey, according to Bel Air Police.
The suspects identified so far in the case include Ionut Kenzo Stoica, 18, of Roselle, New Jersey; Milescu Alea Teodora, 19, of Roselle, New Jersey; and an unidentified juvenile from Middlesex, New Jersey.
The investigation remains active and anyone with information related to this case is urged to call police at 410-638-4500.
