Arson Led to Darlington House Collapse: Fire Marshal

DARLINGTON, MD – A vacant home that was going to be razed in the coming weeks went up in flames and collapsed Sunday afternoon in what the fire marshal has ruled an arson.

At approximately 12:45 p.m. on Sunday, a passerby reported a two-story home was ablaze in the 2400 block of Castleton Road, according to the Office of the State Fire Marshal.
Investigators determined that someone had gotten inside the dilapidated home and intentionally set a fire, officials reported.

Approximately 30 firefighters responded and brought the blaze under control within 40 minutes, the fire marshal reported.
After firefighters left, the remnants of the structure continued to burn for several hours, according to the report.
The fire marshal said structural damage was estimated to be $5,000.
