Bel Air Community Delivers 'Astronomical' Outpouring of Support

Donation drive sponsored by the Bel Air Volunteer Fire Company shows 'hope and faith' in community are strong.

The Bel Air Volunteer Fire Company’s Auxiliary delivered donations to Baltimore this week as first responders were called in droves to help maintain public safety in Baltimore.

Bel Air sent two box trucks filled with water bottles, snacks and other supplies to Baltimore City on Tuesday, according to Rich Gardiner of the Bel Air Volunteer Fire Company.

Learning of the donation drive, citizens dropped off supplies at the Hickory Avenue firehouse plus fire stations in Jarrettsville and Norrisville.

In addition to individuals, several businesses donated to the cause.

The Pepsi plant in Havre de Grace provided a large donation, and a Riverside rental company donated a Penske delivery truck, Gardiner said. ShopRite donated multiple cases of water, according to a citizen.

The outpouring of support was “astronomical,” said Gardiner. Cars were “lined up...nonstop” in front of the firehouse all morning on Tuesday.

The Bel Air Auxiliary drove the goods to Camden Yards for law enforcement and to a city firehouse for the fire department personnel, according to Gardiner.

“There remains hope and faith in our community...” Gardiner said Wednesday.

“It looks like a beehive!” Gardiner wrote of the delivery truck, packed with water bottles and volunteers buzzing about. Photo Credit: Bel Air Volunteer Fire Company Auxiliary Presdient Kristine Davis.
