Bel Air Firefighters Called to Back-to-Back Blazes

Both fires on Saturday were related to heating equipment, Bel Air Volunteer Fire Company reported.

Crews from the Bel Air Volunteer Fire Company were called to back-to-back fires Saturday related to heating equipment, authorities said.

The first was in an apartment on Crocker Drive, where fire broke out in the furnace room, according to Rich Gardiner of the Bel Air Volunteer Fire Company.

There was no serious damage, and nobody was injured as a result of the fire, Gardiner said.

The second fire, a little more than 2 miles away, occurred in Brentwood Park, where a hot water heater fire was reported. Nobody was injured in that incident either, officials said.

Heating equipment is the second leading cause of home fires in the U.S. after cooking equipment, according to the National Fire Protection Association, which provides this tip sheet on winter heating safety.
