Bel Air Opens Schlehr Pavilion At Rockfield Park
A new pavilion in Rockfield Park honors a family that has dedicated years of service to the town of Bel Air.
BEL AIR, MD — The town of Bel Air recently cut the ribbon on the new pavilion at Rockfield Park. Called the "Schlehr Pavilion," it pays tribute to the family whose members have contributed years of service to the town.
Mayor Susan Burdette said there was "no family in the history of Bel Air" that has given so much to the community, The Aegis reported, at the dedication ceremony for the new structure.
Christopher Schlehr was the town administrator until 2013 and before that served as the town's head of public works.

Peter Schlehr is on the town's planning commission; he is Christopher Schlehr's brother, according to The Aegis, which reported another brother was unable to attend.
Peter Schlehr's wife, artist Sandy Schlehr, has contributed to the artworks around town, and she serves on the Cultural Arts Commission.

Their daughter, Kristien Foss, chairs the Cultural Arts Commission and teaches at Southampton Middle School.
The town commissioners voted in spring 2017 to name the pavilion for the Schlehr family, whose name would appear below the town crest on the front of the structure.
The pavilion was made possible in part due to a bond bill sponsored by Maryland Sen. J.B. Jennings. The bill he put forth in the 2016 session allowed the town to receive $116,000 for the design, construction and maintenance of a pavilion at Rockfield Park.
The pavilion is located off Churchville Road at Rockfield Park. It will be used for community gatherings.
