Deadly Edgewood Hit-And Run: Suspect Vehicle Found, Police Say

Authorities say they have located the car involved in a deadly hit-and-run on Route 24.

EDGEWOOD, MD — A Bel Air man died Friday night after he was hit on Route 24 in Edgewood. The vehicle involved in the crash left the scene, and officials said Saturday evening that police had located the car.

The crash happened sometime between 8:15 and 8:45 p.m. Friday on northbound Route 24 south of Route 7, police said. A passing motorist called to report the incident, and responding officers found a man lying on the shoulder of Route 24, police said.

Cristobal Martinez, 31, of Bel Air, was taken with critical injuries to Upper Chesapeake Medical Center, where officials reported he was later pronounced deceased.

The suspect had been driving a silver 2014 Kia Forte and left the scene, officials allege.

Within 24 hours, authorities said they had located the driver. Police reported after 6 p.m. on Saturday that while the suspect had been located, the identity of the driver would not be immediately released since charges would require further investigation and consultation with the Harford County State's Attorney.

Police initially asked for information from the public to help identify the driver. The vehicle may have been a silver Kia or Toyota with damage on the front passenger side and windshield, authorities reported.
