Bel Air Police, Harford Deputies 'Will Respond to Unlawful Acts'

If any unrest from Baltimore riots unfolds in Bel Air, school and law enforcement officials say they are prepared.

As unrest lingers in Baltimore, the Harford County Sheriff’s Office reports that it is aware of potential demonstrations close to home.

“The sheriff’s office is working with our allied law enforcement partners to continually assess the information and has resources in place to deal with any potential incidents that may arise,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement Tuesday.

On social media, students circulated information about a demonstration taking place at Bel Air High School on Thursday, April 30, at 5 p.m., starting at the high school and continuing through downtown Bel Air‘s Main Street.

The school administration was reportedly aware of the plan.

“We are in direct contact with the Bel Air Police Department and Harford County Sheriff’s Office concerning the information circulating social media about a possible event,” Jillian Lader, spokeswoman for Harford County Public Schools, told Patch.

The sheriff’s office said in its statement that it supported citizens’ rights and would also be working to ensure activities stayed within the confines of the law.

“We recognize each citizens’ right to peaceably assemble, but will respond to unlawful acts as necessary,” the statement said.
