- Drivers: Slow down, and “be prepared to give trick-or-treaters a brake.” Do not drive impaired.
- Residents: Turn on porch lights and clear walkways for trick-or-treaters. Keep candles, leaves, hoses, toys and lawn ornaments out of the path.
- Parents: Outline a route for kids, reminding them not to cut through backyards and alleys and only to visit homes with lights on. Remind them to call 911 if they have an emergency or get lost. Ensure children travel in groups, and ask them to check in via phone periodically. Accompany young children.
- Costumes: Keep them short to avoid tripping, wear masks that don’t limit eyesight and use reflective material or flashlights/glowsticks to ensure visibility. Put identification with address and phone number on a bracelet or tucked into costume somewhere.
- Candy: Inspect candy before consumption.
