Bel Air Woman Escapes Car Trunk, Boyfriend Denied Bail: Report

Police released more details about the woman who escaped from a trunk on Interstate 95 this week near MD 543.

BEL AIR, MD — The Parkville man accused of holding his girlfriend against her will in the trunk of a car is reportedly being held without bail at the Harford County Detention Center.

Police found the woman at the Cracker Barrel near the I-95/MD 543 interchange, when she sought refuge at the restaurant.

Officers said they were called to the business in the 1400 block of Handlir Drive around 4:15 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 7, and took the victim to the hospital.

She had "obvious signs of trauma" and "even some duct tape" on her when she showed up at the restaurant seeking help, police told WBAL. The victim had been held prisoner in her own vehicle, a 2002 Cadillac DeVille, since Monday, Oct. 3, and had only been allowed out to consume water, Doritos and illegal drugs, according to the TV station. Police said she was taken to the hospital, where she reportedly remained Tuesday.

When the Cadillac was on the ramp from I-95 to MD 543, officials said the victim broke out of the vehicle by activating the emergency trunk release lever. All vehicles made after September 2001 are required by federal law to include a release latch inside the trunk, a standard that took effect after 11 children died over a three-week period in summer 1998 in separate incidents when they accidentally got trapped in trunks.

Once free, the 35-year-old Bel Air woman ran from the I-95 exit ramp to Cracker Barrel, where she had multiple marks on her face from being "pistol-whipped" by her boyfriend, The Aegis reported.

Ransom Ingram Jr., 35, was arrested in Abingdon on Saturday, Oct. 8, according to police.

Ingram, of the 6600 block of English Oak Road in Parkville, is charged with kidnapping, assault, false imprisonment and other offenses, court records show. He was reportedly denied bail.

Anyone who may have seen the victim escape the vehicle is encouraged to contact Maryland State Police at 410-879-2101, extension 320, or the Maryland State Police Bel Air Barrack at 410-879-2101.
