Bobcats Win First State Title In Girls Lacrosse

Bel Air, CMW played Tuesday in the class 4A/3A and 3A/2A girls lacrosse championships.

STEVENSON, MD — Bel Air girls lacrosse won its first state title Tuesday night in the 4A/3A championship against Severna Park.

The final score was 10-9, with the Bobcats on top at the conclusion of the 8 p.m. game at Stevenson University.

It came down to the final 11 seconds, when Bel Air's Julie Henry landed the winning goal, according to The Bellarion.

Also at Stevenson University Tuesday night for the state championship, the C. Milton Wright Mustangs fell, 12-3, to the Glenelg Gladiators — the defending 3A/2A champs. It marks the fourth state title for the Gladiators.

Both Bel Air and CMW had made it to the championships after overtime wins in their respective regional matchups followed by games with larger margins in the state semis.

The Bobcats beat the Westminster Owls, 10-9, in overtime for the regional crown. In the 4A/3A state semifinals, Bel Air beat Sherwood on Saturday, 19-5.

Like the Bobcats, the Mustangs claimed their regional title in an overtime win; they beat Hereford, 9-8, in the class 3A/2A regional championship. C. Milton Wright continued on to defeat Stephen Decatur, 12-5, on Saturday in the semis.
