Box Hill Restaurant Recognized for 30 Years in Business

Another Abingdon establishment was also honored for its 40-plus years of service.

The ”tax man” visited two Abingdon businesses recently, but it wasn’t to collect anything. Instead, Maryland Comptroller Peter Franchot was giving back to Box Hill Pizzeria and Crab Cakes in addition to Boyle Buick for their long track records of success.

Franchot presented this proclamation to the Box Hill establishment known for its hearty crabcakes: “In recognition of providing a welcoming, friendly atmosphere and delicious fare to Abingdon area residents and visitors since 1984. With gratitude for your warm hospitality, dedicated staff and great appreciation for your unique menu. Congratulations and best wishes for continued growth and success.”

The pizzeria opened in 1984 by brothers Tom and Chris Kanaras and their parents, George and Demetra, according to Franchot.

“Hard work really does pay off,” Box Hill Pizzeria and Crab Cakes posted on its Facebook page after the comptroller’s visit. “Very grateful for this honor.”

Franchot also stopped by Boyle Buick GMC, where he presented a proclamation to the Boyle family, which has kept the dealership in business for 46 years. Founded in 1968 by the late Clarence Boyle, the Buick dealership supports many local charities, according to Franchot.
