Burglar Cleans Out Toys for Tots, Harford Sheriff Says

A storage space filled with toys for children in need was looted, officials said.

Authorities say a burglar stole $1,000 worth of donations for needy children from a Toys for Tots storage unit in Edgewood.

The toys—including a 3-foot Darth Vader action figure and 40 to 50 collectible Hess trucks—were bound for local children whose parents cannot afford them, according to the Harford County Sheriff’s Office.

The suspect struck sometime between 9 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 18, and 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 19, the sheriff’s office reported.

Toys for Tots vowed no child would be without a gift this Christmas because of the theft.

“The thing that hurts is that if you want [toys], ask. I’ll give them to you,” Gene Wlock, with Toys for Tots, told WBAL. “You don’t need to steal them.”
