Car Wash Celebrates Upper Chesapeake Workers
Boy Scouts treated health care workers in Bel Air to a car wash as a way of saying thank you.
BEL AIR, MD — Boy Scouts got out sponges and squeegees to make things a little brighter for health care workers at Upper Chesapeake Medical Center over the weekend. Troop 877 from Bradshaw held a car wash for staff at the hospital in Bel Air as a way to say thank you.
"The weather was perfect, the boys worked very hard for 4+ hours and had a great time doing it," Scoutmaster Stephen Brown said.
Any team member at Upper Chesapeake who wanted their car washed could park it in the lot, and when they came out, it was clean, Brown said.

"Scouting contributes thousands of hours of service to the local community by various projects," Brown said. After opportunities were limited due to the coronavirus, he said this offered scouts the ability to get back to community service.
Health care workers have been "working tirelessly through the pandemic," Brown said, and the troop wanted to show gratitude and appreciation.

The drive took place from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday in parking lot L and was the result of a suggestion by Assistant Scoutmaster Brian Frist.
"The boys were brainstorming about what we could do as troop for a service project to help the community that we could do while practicing social distancing," Brown said.
"It was an activity we could do outside, wear masks and work in small groups around cars," Brown said.

More than 30 workers had their cars washed by the members of Boy Scout Troop 877, Brown said. From Boy Scout to Eagle Scout rank, there were 18 boys who participated, he reported.
"One hospital staff member said it was the first time anyone has ever offered to do this for them," said Brown. "As you can see from the photos, the car wash was a huge success."
