'Cheers!' Bel Air Woman Wins $100K From Lottery

A Bel Air woman has won big for the second time from scratching off a Maryland Lottery ticket.

BEL AIR, MD — A 54-year-old Bel Air woman scored not just a six-figure win while playing the lottery recently. She also got a new nickname.

She had been shopping off Tollgate Road when she saw Cheers Wine & Spirits next door and went inside. It is one of her favorite liquor stores because of how welcoming it is, she told Maryland Lottery officials, and it was there that she had a strange sensation she could not resist and purchased a lottery ticket. It paid off to the tune of $100,000.

Since winning, she has been nicknamed "Cheers!" because of where she bought the ticket, according to Maryland Lottery officials.

The Bel Air woman's lucky ticket was the "Winter Ice Multiplier" scratch-off, in which players try to match their numbers to the five winning numbers. If a snowman symbol appears, the player wins five times the amount shown, and if a money stack symbol appears, players win 10 times the amount shown.

“I still can’t believe this happened. I feel like this is all a dream," the Bel Air woman told Maryland Lottery officials after scratching off her numbers to find she won the top prize of $100,000.

"I was shaking and had to call my husband," she said.

The woman told Maryland Lottery officials she and her husband won playing a similar game seven years ago.

“We won only $10,000 back then," she said.

They plan to use some of their winnings from the $100,000 ticket to pay off their vehicle and also intend to put some of it into savings.

Cheers Wine & Spirits at 615 Baltimore Pike will earn $1,000 for selling a top prize scratch-off ticket.

As a repeat lotto winner in Bel Air, "Cheers" is in good company. There is a Bel Air man who won three times over the course of three months playing scratch-off games, according to Maryland Lottery officials, who reported in January that he had claimed two $50,000 prizes and one for $10,000 since November.
