5 Hospitalized from Crash on Route 543: Officials

Two helicopters, ambulances responded to crash in Riverside Friday afternoon, emergency personnel reported.

HARFORD COUNTY, MD — Five people were hospitalized, including two children, from a crash Friday afternoon on MD 543, according to Harford County emergency officials.

At 3:30 p.m., crews responded to MD 543 at Church Creek Road for a multi-vehicle collision, according to Rich Gardiner, spokesman for the Harford County Volunteer Fire and EMS Association.

There was an ejection involved, he said.

In addition, crews worked for 30 minutes to free at least one person who was trapped in a vehicle.

By 4 p.m., Gardiner said the medevacs had landed in the area; and two Maryland State Police helicopters took three injured persons, including one child, to regional trauma centers.

One adult and one child were also taken by ambulance to a local facility, he said.

By 4:30 p.m., Gardiner reported all had been transported for treatment of injuries that were serious but not believed to be life-threatening.

At 3:30 p.m., crews were treating multiple people involved in the crash on MD 543 at Church Creek Road, according to Rich Gardiner, spokesman for the Harford County Volunteer Fire and EMS Association.

There was an ejection involved in the multi-vehicle crash, and at least one person was trapped, he said.

A Maryland State Police helicopter and four ambulances were requested, according to Gardiner.
Drivers were asked to avoid the area.
