Della Rose's Closes Tavern In Bel Air

BEL AIR, MD — Della Rose's Local Tavern in Bel Air closed over the weekend. The owners said that it was an "extremely difficult decision" to close up the restaurant.

"It is with a heavy heart that we have to make this announcement," Della Rose's posted on its Facebook page on Monday, April 22.

The last night in business for Della Rose's Local Tavern on Agora Drive was Saturday, April 20. The restaurant opened in early 2017.

According to the owners, the idea was to serve up "more than just good food and drinks" — their goal was also to provide help for the community.

During the two years it was in business, the restaurant hosted numerous fundraisers for youth sports teams, community members in need and local organizations.

"Because of these reasons, Linda and I can say that we did not fail here at 1204 Agora Drive! We did God's will!" owner Tony Della Rose posted on the restaurant's Facebook page Monday. "We created a successful place! We took a bad deal out of emotions, and just couldn’t out run it. This is the only reason we are closing the doors! We will be focusing on our family and the health of our family!"

Della Rose's started as a neighborhood tavern that became known for its food in east Baltimore in 1944. The business moved to Overlea in 1961 and then White Marsh in 1998, according to the restaurant's history. A location in Canton was open for a handful of years but reportedly closed in 2012 due to lack of foot traffic.

The Bel Air tavern opened in early 2017. Della Rose's Perry Hall Pub opened in November 2018.

With the closure in Bel Air, that leaves Della Rose's Tavern in White Marsh and Della Rose's Perry Hall Pub.

"We just ask whenever you think of Della Rose’s Local Tavern, just put a smile on your face because it was a great 2 years! It wasn’t as long as I would [have] liked it to be, but it’s just like the song says...I can’t fix that, but I can fix a drink!" Della Rose wrote. "I’m sure I will be fixing you a drink somewhere in the near future! Stay tuned...good things to come."
