MARYLAND — A dense fog advisory has been issued for Maryland, which will be a concern for the Friday morning commute, the National Weather Service said.

And Saturday looks bumpy with thunderstorms forecast, according to the weather service and The Washington Post's Capital Weather Gang.

The fog advisory is in effect until 10 a.m. Friday, with dense fog lowering visibility to a quarter of a mile or less in parts of the state. Areas most likely to be affected are portions of southeast Maryland and central, east-central, eastern, north central, south central and southeast Virginia, the NWS said.

Driving conditions may be hazardous because of the low visibility. Drivers should slow down, use their headlights, and leave plenty of distance ahead of you, the weather service said.

"Areas of dense fog will remain a concern through the morning rush, with a dense fog advisory in effect into mid-morning for most. Afterwards, sunshine should return and the afternoon should turn out quite warm," the agency tweeted.

The Capital Weather Gang also noted it "may feel a bit muggy in the morning, with dew points above 60 degrees. Some showers and storms dot the area and planning outdoor activities may be difficult if they need to be guaranteed rain-free. A few raindrops are possible most anytime."

The highest chance for a storm may be late Friday near sunset with a chance of damaging wind gusts, the Post said.

Areas covered by the hazardous weather outlook include: the District of Columbia, Cecil, Baltimore, Prince George's, Anne Arundel, Charles, St. Marys, Calvert, Montgomery, Howard, and Harford counties.
