Driver Charged in Jarrettsville Hit and Run

Police have charged the suspect accused of hitting a 15-year-old girl last month and allegedly driving off in a BMW without slowing down.

JARRETTSVILLE, MD — A Middle River man has been charged in a hit-and-run that injured a 15-year-old girl last month less than a mile from where he worked, police said.

Helder Geovany Nataren Perdomo, 20, of the 800 block of Maple Crest Drive in Middle River, is charged with failing to remain at the scene of a personal injury collision and many other traffic violations as a result of the crash, according to Maryland State Police from the Bel Air Barrack.

The crash happened in the 1100 block of Baldwin Mill Road before 5 p.m. on Aug. 29, officials reported. The girl was taken to Upper Chesapeake, where she was treated and released for injuries not believed to be life-threatening.

Officials said the timing of the crash gave them pause.

"The hit-and-run crash involving the 15-year-old girl was particularly alarming since it occurred during the first week of school for students in Harford County," police said.

Witnesses who helped police identify the suspect vehicle said the driver never slowed down after striking the teen and quickly fled the area, police reported.

An investigation led troopers to a business in the 3800 block of Norrisville Road less than one mile from the crash scene, where police found Perdomo and the striking vehicle.

"Troopers learned Perdomo worked for a business in the Jarrettsville area and with assistance from the community, police located Perdomo and his 2001 BMW 325i," officials said in a statement.

Perdomo was being held at the Harford County Detention Center Thursday waiting to appear before a District Court Commissioner.
