Teen Dies After Drowning In Bel Air Pool: Report

BEL AIR, MD — Authorities said a teen died Wednesday after drowning at a pool in Bel Air. The Bel Air Volunteer Fire Company took him to a local facility, where he reportedly was pronounced deceased.

The 14-year-old boy was found at the bottom of a pool in the 2100 block of Cypress Drive, according to Jenn Chenworth, spokeswoman for the Harford County Volunteer Fire and EMS Association.

Crews from the Bel Air Volunteer Fire Company were called at 4:45 p.m. Wednesday, July 31, and the boy was in grave condition, Chenworth said.

A family member had been performing CPR when they arrived, and medics continued providing care and took him to a local hospital, where he was pronounced deceased at 5:51 p.m., according to Cristie Kahler, director of media and public relations for the Harford County Sheriff's Office.

Investigators determined there were no suspicious circumstances or foul play, Kahler said. She told Patch that a family member had been outside with the boy, who was swimming and went underwater, then did not resurface. The reason why he did not surface was not known, she said.

This is the second drowning in 10 days in Harford County and the third in two months.

Officials said Joshua Edward Thomas, 27, of Jarrettsville, died July 21 after being found at the bottom of a Bel Air pool and going into cardiac arrest.

Zephaniah Muchele, 11, of Edgewood, was pulled from a private pool on Memorial Day in Joppa, and he died May 31.
