DUI Suspected In Deadly Crash On Route 24: Police

A Bel Air man is facing charges In a crash that resulted in the death of his passenger on MD 24 near US 1, police said.

HARFORD COUNTY, MD — One man is dead and another is facing charges in connection with a crash on MD 24 that happened Friday night, police reported on Saturday. The collision involved one vehicle, and officials said they suspect that the driver was under the influence.

Police said that before 7:30 p.m., troopers from the Bel Air barrack were called to the ramp from MD 24 north to the northbound Route 1 bypass, where a crash had been reported.

A 2003 Chevrolet Avalanche had lost control on the ramp, hit the left guardrail and overturned, according to officials.

Timothy H. Eyring, 49, of Baltimore, was pronounced deceased at the scene of the crash, police said. He was a passenger in the front seat and was ejected from the vehicle, according to authorities, who said he was not wearing a seat belt.

A juvenile passenger in the back seat was unharmed, police said, and the driver did not report injuries either.

The driver is a Bel Air man who is not being identified pending investigation, according to police.

Troopers said that the driver showed signs of potentially being under the influence, and further investigation also suggested that as well.

The driver was taken to Upper Chesapeake Medical Center for a blood test to determine his blood alcohol level, according to Maryland State Police, which made the decision in concert with the Harford County State's Attorney's Office.

The results of the blood test are pending, police reported.
