Edgewood Elementary Dismissing Early on Monday: HCPS

School officials said there was a schedule change due to a utility issue.

EDGEWOOD, MD — Edgewood Elementary School is dismissing early on Monday, Aug. 29, due to a power outage, Harford County Public Schools officials announced Monday morning.

"Facilities is working with BGE to restore power as quickly as possible, but due to the estimated restoration timeframe, all students will be dismissed at 11 a.m. today," school officials said.

After-school activities at Edgewood Elementary are canceled on Monday.

Prekindergarten students should report at their scheduled times on Tuesday.

This was the first day for prekindergarten students in Harford County and the third day for all other students. Elsewhere in the county, there was a three-hour delayed start time on Monday, due to police activity near Patterson Mill Middle and High schools.

In Edgewood, the power outage on Cedar Drive was reported around 6:30 a.m., according to BGE, which said a crew was on-site and still evaluating the cause of the outage as of 10 a.m. Monday.

Temperatures were in the 80s Monday morning in Edgewood, with the forecast showing heat indices in the low 90s for the afternoon. In Baltimore County, 37 schools were closed Monday because they lacked air-conditioning and weather officials were projecting "feels-like" temperatures in the 90s.

Statement from Harford County Public Schools on Monday, Aug. 29:

"Due to a power outage, Edgewood Elementary School will dismiss at 11:00 a.m. today. All remaining pre-k gradual entrance sessions will be held tomorrow at the scheduled time. There will be no after school activities."
