Edgewood Man Charged in Sexual Assaults at Work

HARFORD COUNTY, MD — An Edgewood man is being held without bond at the Harford County Detention Center after being charged with multiple counts of sexual assault.

Melvin Joseph Adams, 55, was identified as the suspect in a series of sexual assaults in multiple jurisdictions, according to police, and officials are asking anyone else who may have been a victim or have information to come forward.

Adams, of the 800 block of Kington Court in Edgewood, was charged with second-degree sexual offense, third-degree sexual offense, fourth-degree sexual offense, engaging in a perverted practice and second-degree assault.

Authorities began investigating Adams after receiving reports of sexual assaults and found a 25-year-old woman was being sexual assaulted at work in Anne Arundel and Baltimore counties as well as Baltimore City, police said. The assaults were reported to the Glen Burnie Barrack of Maryland State Police in August 2016, according to officials.

After obtaining and executing multiple search warrants and court orders to secure evidence, Maryland State Police investigators say they got a warrant for the arrest of Adams. He turned himself into authorities on Sunday at the Bel Air Barrack.

Adams was being held at the Harford County Detention Center without bail Tuesday.
