Edgewood Man Sentenced for Cocaine Distribution

Officials say man picked up coke in Philadelphia, brought it back to Harford, Cecil and Baltimore counties.

An Edgewood man was sentenced to ten years in prison Monday for distributing cocaine.

Eric Maurice Clanton, 35, admitted that he was part of a conspiracy to possess and distribute cocaine, according to a statement from the U.S. Attorney for the District of Maryland.

Clanton was responsible for at least 5 kilograms of cocaine being distributed in Harford, Cecil and Baltimore counties after he obtained it on trips to Philadelphia, the statement said.

He made several trips to Philadelphia to get the drugs, then he and other members of the conspiracy distributed them, according to the statement.

Authorities say they verified his involvement in the conspiracy through cell phone calls and text messages as part of an investigation by the Harford County Narcotics Task Force.

After learning of a plan to obtain cocaine on a trip to Philadelphia, police stopped him on the way back to Maryland, and he was found to have 1.25 kilograms of cocaine, according to the statement.

After serving his ten-year sentence, Clanton will be supervised for five years, the statement said.
