Fallston Walmart Reopens After Evacuation

Law enforcement officers were called to the Fallston Walmart Sunday afternoon following a threat, the Harford County Sheriff's Office said.

FALLSTON, MD — The Walmart in Fallston was evacuated for more than an hour Sunday afternoon, according to several witnesses who were at the scene.

The store in the 300 block of Fallston Boulevard was surrounded by police at every exit, according to one woman who contacted Bel Air Patch after 1 p.m.

"A threat was called in," Sgt. Brooks of the Harford County Sheriff's Office told Patch. "At this time, it does not appear to be a credible threat; however, the store was evacuated" as a precaution.

Employees as well as shoppers were cleared out of the business so law enforcement could investigate, Brooks said.

As of 3:30 p.m., a store representative confirmed to Patch that the Fallston Walmart had reopened.

"The building was deemed to be safe, and the investigation continues," Brooks said at approximately 4 p.m.

The evacuation Sunday afternoon was out of an "abundance of caution," according to Cristie Kahler, spokeswoman for the Harford County Sheriff's Office, who said the measure was taken "...to ensure the safety of the customers, the employees and the surrounding community."

One customer wrote on Twitter that she waited outside to do her shopping because deputies had closed off the store:

In 2016, the Target in Constant Friendship was evacuated after suitcases were left in the parking lot. After investigation, authorities said they were not a threat.
