Fatal Crash Closed I-95 North Near Joppa: Police

All lanes of I-95 north were shut down for approximately three hours on Tuesday afternoon.

Part of Interstate 95 was closed Tuesday afternoon for a fatal crash in the Joppa area.

At 3:35 p.m., the three-vehicle collision was reported on I-95 north past the exit for MD 152/Mountain Road, according to transportation officials.

The crash involved a tractor-trailer and two other vehicles, WJZ reported.

I-95 north was shut down past the MD 152 exit for cleanup and investigation.

By 6:30 p.m, the highway had reopened, according to Maryland State Police, which said officials were continuing to investigate.

Interstate 95 was closed to northbound drivers after 3:35 p.m. due to a three-vehicle crash, according to the Coordinated Highways Action Response Team (CHART).

Within half an hour, WJZ reported there were 5-mile backups in the area.

The Joppa-Magnolia Volunteer Fire Company advised police would be investigating until at least 6 p.m.

Officials recommended taking MD 43, MD 7, US 1 or US 40 as alternate routes.

Traffic on I-95 south was flowing normally, according to traffic cameras.
