Edgewood Fire Causes $1M Damage To 5 Townhomes, Cigarette Suspected: Official

A fire that broke out early Monday morning in Edgewood caused $1 million damage to five townhomes. The families have been displaced.

HARFORD COUNTY, MD — A fire consumed multiple two-story townhouses early Monday morning, causing $1 million in damage.

The fire broke out around 5:30 a.m. in the 1900 block of Brookside Drive in Edgewood. No injuries were reported. The Joppa-Magnolia Volunteer Fire Company responded to the fire and 94 firefighters were on hand to battle the blaze. It took two hours to gain control of the fire, which was discovered by a neighbor on the rear deck of 1935 Brookside Drive, according to the Maryland State Fire Marshal's Office.

Five homes in total sustained extensive damage and five families have been replaced. While the fire remains under investigation, officials found discarded smoking materials on the rear deck, the state fire marshal's office noted.
