Firefighter Rescued from Joppa House Collapse: Official

While battling blaze in Joppa, one firefighter issued mayday call, emergency personnel reported.

JOPPA, MD – Firefighters are at the scene of a house fire Wednesday afternoon in Joppa where officials say a firefighter had to be rescued after a breezeway collapsed.

The firefighter sent out a “mayday” call after being trapped and was immediately freed, according to Jenn Chenworth, spokeswoman for the Harford County Volunteer Fire and EMS Association.

Medical personnel were evaluating firefighters, Chenworth reported at approximately 4:15 p.m.

The house fire broke out in the 500 block of Old Joppa Road, and the Joppa-Magnolia Volunteer Fire Company reported that Old Joppa Road was shut down for the response.

The Bel Air Volunteer Fire Company and other crews were helping to contain the fire.
