First Ambulance Owned By Harford County Hits The Road

The Harford County ambulance will supplement existing services in the county, officials said.

FOREST HILL, MD — Within the first hour of being placed in service, the first Harford County-owned ambulance was dispatched to an emergency. Harford County government posted a video on its Facebook page showing the vehicle heading out at 7:49 a.m. on Sunday, Jan. 21; it is shared above.

The ambulance is one of two that will be added in the county to supplement existing emergency vehicles as demand for medical services grows, officials said.

Currently, the ambulance is based on Industry Lane in Forest Hill. The facility there is also home to hazmat response vehicles.

Officials said the plan is to build a facility on Ady Road in Hickory where the Harford County Department of Emergency Services is located that will house both county-owned ambulances.

In his state of the county address on Jan. 10, County Executive Barry Glassman announced the the paramedics staffing the county's first ambulance would be training in January to help meet the demand for emergency services.

The first call where the ambulance was needed on Jan. 21 was in Fallston, where someone was in respiratory distress, according to Harford County officials. The ambulance took the person to the Upper Chesapeake Medical Center in Bel Air for treatment, authorities reported.
