Flash Flood Warning Issued In Harford County

The National Weather Service issued a flash flood warning Friday night as rapid rainfall was creating dangerous conditions in Harford.

HARFORD COUNTY, MD — The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood warning Friday night for parts of Harford County. The flash flood warning is in effect until 9:30 p.m.

As of 8:15 p.m., the National Weather Service said 3 to 5 inches of rain had fallen, with another inch possible. Flash flooding was occurring, according to weather officials.

Those in flood-prone areas should immediately seek higher ground. Drivers who come across roads covered in water should turn around; don't drown.

At 6:36 p.m., weather officials said that radar showed up to 3 inches of rain had fallen in Harford County, and flash flooding was expected to begin shortly.

The flash flood warning was issued as emergency personnel were conducting swift water rescues in Darlington and Bel Air.

PREVIOUS REPORT - Flood Warning

With up to 2 inches of rain already on the ground and more on the way, the National Weather Service has issued a flood warning. The warning is in effect from approximately 5:30 p.m. Friday to 12:15 a.m. Saturday.

It applies to northern Harford County and north central Baltimore County, according to weather officials.

The National Weather Service issued the warning after radar showed thunderstorms capable of producing heavy rain before 5:30 p.m. that may lead to 1 to 3 inches of additional precipitation.

Locations that may experience flooding during the flood warning include the following, weather officials say: Pylesville, Darlington, Bentley Springs, Freeland, Cardiff, Norrisville, Street, Rocks, Maryland Line, Scarboro and Whiteford.

During a flood warning, flooding is imminent or occurring. Drivers should turn around if they come across flooded roads, and pedestrians should not attempt to walk through flood waters.

A flash flood watch remains in effect until midnight.
