Possible Rodent Hair Triggers Product Recall In Many MD Supermarkets

Potential rodent hair in an item sold by a grocery chain with multiple Maryland stores has prompted a recall.

A frozen spinach product sold in Aldi stores is being recalled in Maryland due to possible rodent hair contamination, according to an alert from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

Manufacturer Dr. Praeger's Sensible Foods Inc. said it recalled nearly 7,900 12-ounce boxes of Simply Nature Spinach Bites after the contamination was discovered.

The affected product bears lot mumber G25CF-02B and the UPC 4099100247992.

The recall also affects products sold in Pennsylvania, the company said.

The recall was first initiated on Jan. 16, but was upgraded to Class II on Monday. A Class II is issued when the use of a product may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health effects, with a low chance of serious adverse health consequences, according to the FDA.

According to a report from People, Aldi removed the affected product from shelves when the recall occurred in January. The product currently on shelves is safe to consume.

No illnesses or hospitalizations have been reported.

While the company did not issue guidance for consumers who purchased the product, people are usually urged to throw out the affected product or return it to the store for a full refund.
