Harford Ballerina Dances Way into International Spotlight
Sixteen-year-old Taylor Ciampi has been tapped to compete in Switzerland.
A Harford County ballerina is one of eight women from the U.S. to qualify for the Prix de Lausanne, a prestigious competition in Lausanne, Switzerland, this winter.
Taylor Ciampi, 16, will head overseas in January 2015 to train with the creme de la creme of the world’s young dancers. She was selected after a rigorous process that included submitting a DVD of her performance.
“This is a once-in-a-lifetime experience, taking classes and being coached by international experts and networking with other young gifted students from across the world,” Ciampi said.

After training, Ciampi will participate in a competition that runs from Feb. 1 to 8. The competition opens the door to a professional career. Prizes range from scholarships to entry-level jobs with professional companies.
“Taylor has a special quality about her dancing—she has this something different about her that goes beyond her clean technique and amazing facility,” Coach Mariaelena Ruiz said. “I cannot wait for the company that will hire her. Taylor will be a great asset and one to watch in the years to come.”
