Harford Bank In Bel Air Robbed Twice In Two Months
The Bel Air Police Department is investigating whether the bank robbery may be related to a September holdup at the same location.
BEL AIR, MD — Harford Bank was robbed on South Main Street Thursday morning near Bel Air High School, the Bel Air Police Department reported. Several schools were briefly placed on lockdown, an exercise that was similar to what happened in September when the same bank was robbed, that time at gunpoint.
The robbery at the bank in the 500 block of South Main Street occurred around 10:15 a.m. on Thursday, according to Bel Air Chief of Police Charles Moore. Police officers were at the scene within three minutes, he said.
The suspect was described as a black man who was about 6 feet tall with a blue bandanna wearing a gray hoodie with "Baltimore" on the back as well as faded blue jeans.

He was last seen on Linwood Avenue near Maitland Street, according to authorities, who advised people around 10:30 a.m. to avoid the area due to police presence. The suspect headed for the neighborhood of Homestead Village, officials said.
Investigators reportedly thought the September bank robbery suspect also went toward Homestead Village.

"We’re not sure yet if it’s the same suspect and/or if it's related," Moore told Bel Air Patch Thursday afternoon.
The same branch of Harford Bank was also robbed on Sept. 5, resulting in school lockdowns. That robbery happened at 9:25 a.m. The suspect was described as a black man about 6 feet tall and 160 pounds in his late 40s or early 50s wearing a red shirt, white pants, sunglasses, white hat, white shoes and black book bag.
Thursday was an early dismissal day in Harford County Public Schools. The following schools were placed on modified lockdowns, according to Jillian Lader, spokeswoman for Harford County Public Schools, who said the measure was lifted by 11:05 a.m.:
- Homestead/Wakefield Elementary School
- Bel Air Elementary School
- Bel Air Middle School
- Bel Air High School
"We have been given the all clear by the Bel Air Police Department and HCPS Safety and Security Office and the modified lockdown has been lifted at this time," Lader said after 11 a.m.
Nearby St. Margaret School was also on lockdown, which was later lifted as well.
