Harford Chamber Hosts State Of County Luncheon

The Triple-A bond rating and new tax credits were among the highlights of the address about Harford County's business climate.

BEL AIR, MD - From the Harford County Chamber of Commerce: The Harford County Chamber of Commerce hosted the annual State of the County luncheon at Water’s Edge Events Center on January 18, 2018. The event was sponsored by MedStar Health. The centerpiece of the event was County Executive Barry Glassman’s update on various aspects of our County over the past year and its prospects moving forward.

While providing a budgetary overview and noting Harford County’s fiscal balance and efficiency, Mr. Glassman quoted Will Rogers, stating, “if you find yourself in a hole, the first thing to do is, stop digging.” And Mr. Glassman is confident that Harford County is continuing to improve with limiting debt to fiscally responsible levels and restoring the financial reserve. Regarding the County’s bond rating, it was announced that Harford County, once again, received its Triple-A bond rating from all three of the major independent bond rating agencies. This puts Harford County in the top 3% of counties nationwide. Mr. Glassman also stated that smarter procurement procedures saved $5.7 million. Other initiatives discussed included tax credit available for senior citizens and retired military who have lived in their homes for 40 years or more, funding has been committed for new Havre de Grace Middle/High School, the first County owned ambulances will be in service within the next few weeks to assist with existing services, and this summer Bass Masters Elite fishing tournament will be held in Harford County.

The State of the County Luncheon is an opportunity for Harford County residence and businesspersons to hear directly from the County Executive about the County’s progress and path forward to future success.
