Harford County Executive: 'Bring The Shutdown To A Resolution'

There are services for those struggling with the government shutdown, Harford County Executive Barry Glassman says.

HARFORD COUNTY, MD — Amid what is now the longest government shutdown in U.S. history, Harford County Executive Barry Glassman offered his support to federal employees. As President Donald Trump and Congress battle over funding for a border wall with Mexico, many furloughed workers have been working without pay.

"As some federal employees face their first missed paycheck, I continue to implore both sides to bring the shutdown to a resolution," Glassman said in a statement on Friday, Jan. 11, three weeks after the shutdown began.

The partial federal government shutdown started on Friday, Dec. 21, and thousands of workers felt the pinch on Jan. 11 when they did not get paid for the first time since the shutdown began; many received pay on Dec. 28 from the last pay period.

"In local government, we provide services 24/7, and shutdowns are not an option," Glassman said. "For Harford County citizens and families affected by the federal impasse, my office of constituent services remains open..."

Glassman issued his statement the day after Harford County Sheriff Jeffrey Gahler released a message in support of President Donald Trump's efforts to build a border wall, asking Congress to take action and grant the request for border wall funding.
