Harford Marks Police Week With Memorial Ceremony, Ride

Officials held the first-ever memorial ceremony to honor fallen heroes from the Harford County Sheriff's Office.

HARFORD COUNTY, MD — The Harford County Sheriff's Office held its first ever memorial ceremony on Thursday to remember its deputies who have died in the line of duty.

There have been seven line-of-duty deaths in the sheriff's office, authorities say.

During the ceremony, officials unveiled a memorial wall outside the southern precinct in Edgewood that shows the names of seven men and one woman who died while serving Harford County.

Before the ceremony on Thursday, the Police Unity Tour stopped at the precinct for a wreath laying.

The Police Unity Tour takes cyclists from all parts of the country to Washington, D.C., where they will converge at the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial on Friday. Having hundreds bicycling on roads leading to the memorial raises awareness of those who have died in the line of duty.

Among those participating is Jennifer Logsdon, the widow of Deputy First Class Mark Logsdon.

"...it's a way for me to heal," Logsdon told WJZ. Her husband was killed in Abingdon on Feb. 10, 2016.

Harford County's memorial service and unity tour coincide with National Police Week, which honors those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice.
