Inmate Takes Life At Harford Detention Center: Sheriff
Officials said that a man was denied bail, then took his life in a cell this week at the Harford County Detention Center.
BEL AIR, MD — A 30-year-old inmate at the Harford County Detention Center took his own life after he was denied bail this week, according to the Harford County Sheriff's Office. While his death remains under investigation, authorities said that they do not suspect foul play.
Marlyn William Barnes, 30, of the 5400 block of Lewellen Avenue in Gwynn Oak, had been booked at the detention center on Tuesday, April 9. He was charged with first and second-degree assault as well as violating a protective order.
Court records show Barnes had a bail review hearing in Harford County District Court at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 10.

A correctional deputy who was making rounds found Barnes unresponsive in his cell, according to the Harford County Sheriff's Office.
Deputies called for medics and began performing life-saving measures until medical staff arrived and delivered CPR and used an AED without any improvement. The Bel Air Volunteer Fire Company also responded but was he unable to be revived, officials said.

The death of Barnes is being investigated by the Harford County Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigations Division. Officials said that Barnes had just returned from his bail review when he took his life.
The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner is conducting an autopsy, authorities said, and no foul play is suspected.
