Intersection in Bel Air Closed for Utility Issue: Emergency Officials
Part of a utility pole caught fire on Baltimore Pike/US 1 Saturday morning, the Bel Air Volunteer Fire Company reported.

BEL AIR, MD — US 1 in Bel Air is closed Saturday morning at Atwood Road due to an issue with a utility line.
The problem on Baltimore Pike/US 1 at Atwood Road was described as "serious" by Rich Gardiner of the Bel Air Volunteer Fire Company.
"A cross member on a utility pole broke off, and the wires caught the pole on fire," Gardiner said. He added that live wires were a concern, as was the possibility of objects falling.

With traffic being detoured in the area, Gardiner advised drivers to expect delays.
Nearly 400 people were without power in the area of the utility line issue, according to BGE's outage map, which indicated restoration time was expected to be 12:45 p.m.

Because of icy conditions, transportation officials urged people to stay inside and delay traveling until the afternoon on Saturday.
