Joppa Boater's Body Found After Search: Police

A Harford County boater died after jumping into the water around Middle River, Maryland Natural Resources Police reported.

MIDDLE RIVER, MD — The body of a Joppa man has been found after an extensive search effort in the waters around Middle River, according to Maryland Natural Resources Police.

Missing boater Richard A. Miller, 71, of Joppa, was found at 8:15 a.m. on Thursday, police reported.

Authorities said he disappeared Wednesday after a boating accident on Dark Head Creek.

A witness reportedly saw Miller jump from a small vessel as it was sinking, then watched as a good Samaritan threw him a life jacket, but he could not reach it, according to the U.S. Coast Guard.

He went underwater and did not resurface.

First responders were dispatched to the 100 block of Kingston Park Lane East in Middle River before 12:45 p.m. on Wednesday after Miller disappeared in the water.

Divers from Harford County were among the teams that participated in the search. Also involved were the U.S. Coast Guard, Maryland Natural Resources Police and first responders from Baltimore County.
