MD 152 Park And Ride To Close: Update On Options

Three options for a new park-and-ride lot off MD 152 will be presented during a virtual update on the express toll lanes project.

The MD 152 park and ride will be inaccessible next summer since Old Mountain Road will no longer connect through the interchange ramps, according to transportation officials.

HARFORD COUNTY, MD — The MD 152 park-and-ride lot will close in Harford County in summer 2021 due to construction of the express toll lanes, officials say. To involve the community in the plan for its relocation, the Maryland Transportation Authority is hosting a virtual update Thursday to present the options.

The first option is a new lot at Franklinville Road at MD 152 that would cost about $8 million and have 275 parking spots. As part of the construction, Franklinville Road would be widened. There has already been public concern about this option due to traffic on Franklinville Road and at its intersection with MD 152, officials reported, which prompted the state to look at a second site. The site does not meet the requirements for a traffic signal, authorities reported.

The second option is to build a new park and ride at Old Mountain Road east of Interstate 95. A roundabout near Old Mountain Road and the east side of Old Mountain Road would provide access. This lot would contain 175 parking spaces and cost $11 to $13 million to build. Real estate acquisitions would also be required.

The third option is a no-build option. Users would switch to use the MD 924/MD 24 park-and-ride lot or opt to drive by themselves, officials said.

Construction of a new park-and-ride lot off MD 924 and MD 24 will begin this June and will be finished by summer 2021, according to the Maryland Transportation Authority. It will have 275 spaces and have transit and bicycle facilities, officials said.

Both options for building new park-and-ride lots for the users of the one on MD 152 — off Franklinville Road or east of I-95 at Old Mountain Road — would include transit and bicycle facilities, officials say.

The current park and ride has 309 spaces but will be inaccessible next summer since Old Mountain Road will no longer connect through the interchange ramps, according to transportation officials.

A virtual update on the MD 152 park and ride will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 11.
