HARFORD COUNTY, MD — The Harford County Development Advisory Committee will review plans for a house of worship on Creswell Road. During its meeting at 9 a.m. Wednesday, various representatives from state and county agencies offer feedback on proposed developments.

In this case, development plans call for converting existing buildings on the site into a 60-seat church on 11.87 acres, according to Harford County Planning and Zoning documentation.

The property at 2215 Creswell Road is 54.37 acres, according to state property records. The owner is Churchville-based Crescent Investment Group LLC.

At the location, the Harford Islamic Center is proposing subdividing the property so it can build its mosque on the nearly 12-acre parcel, according to The Aegis, which reported social media threats in response to the project resulted in alerts to law enforcement this week, including to the FBI.

While The Aegis cited comments opposing the proposal that motivated by religious intolerance, another news outlet said it found community members were more concerned about roads.

Residents in Quail Creek told WMAR they were mainly concerned their neighborhood would be impacted by traffic, something Harford Islamic Center President Faisal Sayeed said he would be "open to working with the community" on as the project unfolds.

The Harford Islamic Center is a nonprofit organization that formed in February 2018 with the goal of creating a Masjid, or mosque, for the community. For a 60-seat mosque, it would be required to have 20 parking spaces, according to the site development proposal.

The Harford County Development Advisory Committee meets at 9 a.m. Wednesday in the first-floor conference room at 212 Bond Street in Bel Air.
