North Harford Woman Shows Love for Police with Ribbons

"...our campaign seeks only to say 'We love you, we support you and please come home safely.'" —Sea of Blue Ribbon Campaign

Jean Teal, who lives on Sunny Hill Farm in Whiteford, wanted to do something for police officers.

On Tuesday, she put up a ribbon on the farm’s roadside sign letting people know they could pick up a blue ribbon there as a simple gesture to show support for law enforcement, according to ABC 2 News, which reported Teal’s husband is a retired Baltimore County officer.

By Thursday night, more than 45,000 people have said they plan to display blue ribbons at their homes or on their mailboxes on Saturday, Dec. 20, via the Sea of Blue Ribbon Campaign Facebook page.

Here is the campaign’s message, according to the page:

Every 58 hours an officer dies in the line of duty...Police officers put their very lives on the line every day, making split-second decisions.

As wives, sisters, mothers and daughters of the men and women in blue, our campaign seeks only to say “We love you, we support you and please come home safely.”

On Saturday, Dec. 20, we are asking everyone that is a member of the force, a family member of the force, is the friend of a police officer or has simply been helped at one time or another by a police officer to display a blue ribbon.

Put it on your mailbox, deck rail, tree, etc. Many will be working on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, missing special moments with their children. They will be there for you when called. Please show our officers in blue how much we RESPECT and APPRECIATE their service and sacrifice.

“I wanted to have law enforcement officers feel that they are appreciated and supported in the community,” Teal told ABC 2 News.

Now, people across the country, from Texas to New York and beyond, are saying via Facebook that they will join her in showing blue for their officers too.
