HARFORD COUNTY, MD — The Old Joppa Road overpass will be closed starting Monday, Oct. 7. It will remain inaccessible for a year as crews work on the Interstate 95 Express Toll Lanes extension project, which calls for extending the Express Toll Lanes from MD 43 to MD 24.

During the closure, traffic will be detoured onto Mountain Road/MD 152 via Franklinville and Philadelphia roads. Residents in the area will still have access to their homes at all times.

Most work will take place during the day, but there will be some nighttime work on I-95 at the Old Joppa Road overpass to lessen the impact on daytime traffic and ensure the project stays on schedule, according to the Maryland Transportation Authority.

The Express Toll Lane extension project calls for replacing several bridges that are more than 50 years old and installing new sound barriers.

Work is being completed in segments. For example, the Bradshaw Road overpass closed in March and will be closed until spring 2020 as crews reconstruct the bridge.

The Old Joppa Road overpass will reopen in August 2020, according to the Maryland Transportation Authority.
